The Student Hotel was founded by Scottish entrepreneur Charlie MacGregor in Amsterdam. The company’s roots lay in Scotland where the MacGregor family started building student accommodation for The University of Edinburgh in 1982.
The Student Hotel opened its first property in Rotterdam in 2012 and today operates more than 3000 rooms in the Netherlands, Spain and France, with The Student Hotel Florence due to open in 2017.
Today The Student Hotel offers fully-serviced, state-of-the-art co-living accommodation in cities throughout Europe: 485 rooms in Rotterdam (opened 2012), 707 rooms in Amsterdam West (2013), 309 rooms in The Hague (2014), 574 rooms in Amsterdam City (2015), 365 in Groningen (2016), opening in 2017 Eindhoven, Florence and Bologna and under the brand Melon District over 597 rooms in Barcelona (2005) and 191 in Paris (2015). With The Student Hotel Berlin, 456 rooms will be added.
The Student Hotel aims to open 40 properties (15,000 beds) in key European cities by 2020 and, with €365 million of equity committed by Aermont and APG Asset Management, is looking for development opportunities across the continent.
